Day 7 (Th) Uyuni – Tahua. Understanding salt flats (Shared 4x4 up to 5 person per car with guide-driver) (Tayka of Salt Hotel) (B, L, D)

Departure from hotel at 10:00.

Today we´ll have an unforgettable journey through 12,000 km ² of fantastic landscapes of salt. Prepare your camera! The dazzling white mantle of the Uyuni Salt Flat (or Thunhupha) resembles an immense glacier.

In the winter (dry season, from May to October), when the surface hardens, geometrical formations start appearing formed by salt particles conglomerating into polygons. In summer (rainy season, November to February), the saline desert transforms into a gigantic mirror that melts into the purest sky in America.

We will enter the salt flat through Colchani, where we can find the salt factories. We will visit one of these and receive an explanation of the family economy of the salt which governs the life of the people on the basis of a cooperative organization.

Once we end this part of the trip we will visit the salt plains in the part in which the mounds of salt are recollected, from here we will head towards the Incahuasi Island, the tourist center that has a path to climb to the summit which acts as a special vantage point of 360 degrees. We´ll have a box lunch at the island and then we’ll head toward the dominant and magic figure of the Volcano Thunupa whose slopes will let us visit the Chantani Museum, with its ceramic sample, in capricious ways of stone that resemble to animals and its silent mummies that refer the old burials in these lands.

Arrival at Tayka Salt Hotel. Accommodation in the hotel.

Almost immediately departure by car to the town of Chillguilla at north, where we´ll start the climb to the Pucara. We´ll walk for 20 minutes climbing to the impressive site of Pucara Chillima. It is an intimate corner of the Sensual Salt Flat, of incomparable beauty, but also a spiritual presence that emanates from the stone buildings of more than thousand years old, that make us think about the ancestral populations’ way of living. Return to the car.

Return to Tayka Salt Hotel with private bathrooms, hot water and heating (B, L, D).

Day 8 (F) Tahua – Ojo de Perdiz. Bouquet of lagoons, colored deserts (Shared 4x4 up to 5 person per car with guide-driver) (Tayka of de Desert Hotel) (B, L, D)

Today we’ll focus on the Salt flat unknown by the tourism or Sensual Salt Flat, through the salt cortex we’ll ahead our 4X4 to Chiquini, making a stop in a lonely “ojo de agua - water eye” to continue toward “The Cathedral”, a huge cliff facing the Salt Flat and very near the Chiquini Cave, that presents petrified estramatolitos in a strange geological underwater formation, from de time of Lake Michin (300 thousand years ago) and Lake Mauca (40 thousand years).

Next we will have the privilege of crossing from north to south the most beautiful part in the white desert, the Sensual Salt Flat, far from the usual route of the tourists, going toward the bay of the Campanas Islands dominated by the image of the Volcano Caltama configuring a nonpareil landscape environment. We will abandon the Salt flat leaving for Charagua, place where we will stop to visit its corrals, of prominent aesthetics, of goats already disappeared by the decrease of the régime of rains. It will take us one hour more of uneven route to arrive to the Burnt Town of San Pedro de Quemes, where we will leave the car to go through its brief alleys and constructions that have inspired the hotel Tayka of Stone.  Lunch in the Hotel of Stone (instead of the visit to the Burnt Town we recommend to take the optional Shepherding of Llamas, because it is a nonpareil experience of one hour, transferring dozens of llamas directed by the nice shepherdess Mrs. Marta that has been interested in making the visitors know a small sample of the relationship between the man and the llama, so vital for the people's life of these distant places).

In the afternoon we will go toward the bouquet of the lagoons Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, Honda and Ramaditas, in which the great quantity of flamingos, of the three existent species in the area, will let themselves be seen  and photographed at will. Other birds, as Andean gulls and ducks accompany to the flamingos in these lagoons flanked by frequently snowed volcanos that present a green lap when descending (brave straw, yareta and thola) to finish in the ocher colors that the winds have been drawing in millennia, or in the strange colors coming from the borax and these strangers' lagoons sulfur.

We will enter in desert surfaces of sand and piedrecilla of enormous extension, without routes, almost without direction. These fantastic deserts are owners of the whole palette of terracottas. Red, oranges, ochers, brasses, coffees and beige they are one after another in each curve of the road, fighting for the traveler's attention. In front of the most impressive of these palettes of colors we have lifted the Hotel Tayka of the Desert, with private bathrooms, hot water and environmental heating. Accommodation at Tayka del Desierto hotel (B, L, D).

Day 9 (Sat) Ojo de Perdiz – Uyuni – La Paz. Andean Fauna Reserve Eduardo Avaroa. Green lagoon (B, Bx)

We will leave early at dawn, at 05:30 o'clock, toward a first contact with Flora and Andean Fauna Reserve Eduardo Avaroa when visiting the Stone Tree. Next we will have a brief company of the Red Lagoon to observe its great population of flamingos, of the three existent species that spend the night in its icy mirror of water. We will continue toward the Morning Sun Geysers in order to surprise them in their more active moment. This will be the highest point in the route, near 5000 mosl. Noisy fumaroles and puddles where the earth seems to boil in reddish, grizzly and scarlets mud which we will travel in their same banks.

The desert and salt flat of Chalviri is another scenario of great landscape value that combines the white of the snow, the ocher of the desert, the blue of the water and the white of the borax. In one of their corners we will be able to take a bath in the Hot Springs of Polques.

When going away we will have the scenario of the Ladies of the Desert, master piece of the wind and the Andean peaks with perfect details in forms and colors, of rocks that have resisted the wind. And again, as an excess, the Green Lagoon, at the foot of the Volcano Licancabur, another pearl of the Reserve.

From the Green Lagoon we will return to the Red Lagoon.  We will arrive there at lunch time, on time to see as their waters pass from the color red wood to a color red blood.

We will return through Villa Mar toward the cemetery of trains.

We will say goodbye to the last llamas and vicuñas that will have accompanied our journey from the beginning and we will continue looking for the suri or Andean ñandu, until the last moment, which doesn't always let itself be seen.

Nobody will be able to forget this experience at the end of the world

Arrival in Uyuni at 18:00 free time and transfer to terminal from where we will leave in tourist bus to La Paz it leaves at 20:00.
